Facial Reflexology - What Is It?
Quoted by beauty journalist, Sarah Vine, as a "Contender for London's best facial treatment."
Facial Reflexology aims to help your entire body function at its optimal level (as with hand and foot reflexology) - with the added bonus of a glowing complexion and younger looking skin!
This non-invasive treatment is based on the theory that areas on your face are connected to areas of your body (as with hand and foot reflexology) and stimulating them improves underlying energy imbalances which promotes well-being. The proximity of the face to the brain is key to the effectiveness of this therapy - especially for helping with relaxation. Manipulating facial reflex points helps connect to the body's neuro-pathways to rebalance and revitalise the body and mind.
Facial Reflexology is not a beauty treatment. However, it does have lovely beautifying side-effects, quite literally ‘lifting' the face to make your face feel and look smoother and more toned. It also encourages lymphatic drainage, stimulates the facial nerves, increases blood flow to the face, helps to build up new skin tissue and improves skin tone.
Who Can It Help?
The first benefit of Facial Reflexology is total relaxation. As the treatment includes deep tissue massage, Facial Reflexology can produce a natural Botox effect by relaxing facial muscles. It can tighten the skin by improving muscle tone and it can give you a healthy radiant glow that makes you look as good as you feel - and feel as good as you look!
Over a series of sessions, Facial Reflexology can help the face feel and look smoother and more toned. You may notice a reduction in lines and wrinkles and with this 'mini face lift', you can help build up a new layer of skin tissue and improve skin tone.
As with other forms of Reflexology, Facial Reflexology aims to stimulate the body's healing mechanisms and encourage the body to eliminate toxins, with the added benefit of a younger, less stressed complexion and a healthy glow radiating from the inside out.
The treatment may help reduce the symptoms and effects of many common ailments including: stress, IBS, back pain, arthritis, depression, menstrual and hormonal ailments and sleep disorders. Facial reflexology treatments are very popular during pregnancy and are often used to help promote a shorter and natural labour.
What to Expect During a Facial Reflexology Session?
The Facial Reflexology treatment takes place on a massage couch, or can be performed with you in the Lafuma (reclining chair) should you prefer.
Using high-quality, organic massage oils from Neal's Yard Remedies, your neck and face will reap the benefits of these gorgeous massage oils.
You can remain clothed during this treatment as I only need access to the neck, face and head. Alternatively, should you be concerned about getting any oil on your clothes, you may prefer to remove your top. Whatever your preference, you will be kept warm under towels/blankets, so the choice is yours.
